Levi's

Poster
1996 (printed)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This is a poster for Levi's 535 jeans. The poster belongs to a series with the strapline 'Levi's modelled by original wearers'. The campaign was conceived to look like a magazine fashion shoot while using 'real' models to emphasise that Levi's denim has been adopted by generations of teenagers throughout American history, beginning in the 1850s. Josephine, a 79-year-old teacher from Aspen was selected for this image. At the same time the campaign was notable for challenging the traditional ageist attitude of fashion advertising.
