Caricature of Farinelli, Cuzzoni and Heidegger

Print
18th century (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Etching depicting a caricature of Farinelli, Francesca Cuzzoni and John James Heidegger. The poem below the image indicates that this is a satire of the rising popularity of masquerades - brought about by Heidegger - and the declining taste for Italian opera in London. Farinelli is shown holding the hand of Cuzzoni. Heidegger is behind them, with masks on the floor by his feet, pointing to a hat that is hanging from the wall.
