Secession. 16 Ausstellung, 1903

Poster
1902 (printed)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This poster advertises the 16th Exhibition of the Vienna Secession Group in 1902. The Group had seceded in 1897 from the conservative Academy in Vienna (hence its name) and included artists, architects, furniture, metalwork and ceramic designers. The poster is unusual in that it does not use the human figure, so often the focal point of posters of this period. The lettering is the main design. It takes up the whole sheet to dramatic effect, with just a small heraldic motif in the background.
