The Pont Neuf, Paris

Watercolour
1833 (painted)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Thomas Shotter Boys (1803-1874) first trained as an engraver. He then studied lithography - a newly invented and more immediate printing technique - in Paris. Today he is most admired for his watercolours of Paris. They have a feeling of light and balance that rival the work of other great watercolourists of the day. Boys particularly admired Richard Parkes Bonington (1802-1828).
