Physical description

Plate of porcelain painted in enamels and decorated with gilding. In the middle are two flowers with caterpillars and a butterfly. The rim is decorated with foliated strapwork and edged inwards with a conventional blue and gold border. The design of exotic flowers and insects is in the style of Swiss-Dutch botanist Maria Sybille Merian. The rim design is linked to pieces in the style of the Dutch designer Cornelius Pronk.
