This watercolour records celebrations held at the Drury Lane Theatre in London. They were held on two successive Mondays, 18 and 25 June 1821. The celebrations commemorated the Battle of Waterloo of 1815, when the Duke of Wellington defeated the French emperor Napoleon. They also celebrated the approaching coronation of George IV of England.

The entertainment lasted for four hours. There were plays, music, a masquerade, refreshments and a ball. This watercolour captures the glamour of the event and the anticipation of the audience.
