Chinese softpaste porcelain, painted in blue and decorated with gilding. Painted with two quails and with bamboo, prunus tree and chrysanthemem. The rim has a gilt wavy edge. The dish copies a German Meissen original, that in turn copied Japanese Kakiemon style porcelain.

Transferred from the Museum of Practical Geology (Jermyn Street, London), accessioned in 1901. This acquisition information reflects that found in the Asia Department registers, as part of a 2022 provenance research project.
