Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This is a poster for Cirio food products. Branding represents the first phase of advertising. Many early examples can be found before 1800, mostly in the form of the name of the producer or retailer. In this later example, the manufacturer wished the name Cirio to be associated with the good quality of a range of tinned and preserved fruits and vegetables. The range was distributed in the home market and abroad. Manufacturers have produced numerous brand names in order to target different markets since the 19th century.
