This model represents the prayer niche or mihrab in the Mosque of Muhafiz Khan. It is one of a group showing details of mosque architecture in Ahmadabad, in western India. This particular mosque was built in the late 15th century. Although the V&A has several models of Indian buildings, examples showing interior details are more rare. The Arabic inscription, written in tiny letters on a piece of paper, is copied from one in the mosque, which gives the name of its founder and a date.
