Object history
Historical significance: Only 16 English gadrooned pewter loving cups are known to survive and all were either made in London or Wigan. The London cups are characterised by a second band of gadrooning below the lip, in keeping with silver examples of the same date. The Wigan cups have incised lines in place of the gadrooning. The London cups were also made in 2-part moulds whereas the Wigan examples were made in 3-part moulds.
