Place of origin |
George Edwards (1694-1773) was an artist who specialised in natural history subjects. This watercolour was probably intended as a work of art in its own right. In the 18th century there was an increasing demand for detailed pictures of unusual plants, animals and birds. Here Edwards has created an imagined landscape setting and a dramatic pose for the Golden Thrush.
