Costume design for a Transylvanian Woman. The design depicts a full length female figure wearing an 1880's style Transylvanian peasant costume adapted for ballet performance. The costume consists a dark blue calf length dress with decorative silver borders and buttons worn under a black jacket. The figure also wears black boots and a black headscarf decorated with coins. Two photocopies depicting Eastern European peasant headdresses have been glued to the right of the figure. Unsigned by the artist. On the reverse is a pencil drawing of a male head.

This costume design by Lez Brotherston is part of an extensive collection of designs donated to the Theatre Museum by the artist in 2002. The design was executed for a production of Michael Pink's ballet "Dracula" performed by Northern Ballet Theatre at the Bradford Alhambra Theatre on September 16th, 1996. The production, based on an original idea by Ken Russell after Bram Stoker's novel of the same name, was directed by Christopher Gable, composed by Philip Feeney, and lit by Paul Pyant. The production toured the country extensively, and was performed at Sadler's Wells in March 1999. The ballet has also entered the repertoire of the Atlanta Ballet, the Colorado Ballet, the Royal New Zealand Ballet, and the Norwegian National Ballet.
