Frieze

ca. 1500-1525 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This frieze from a chimney piece is made after Benedetto da Rovezzano in Florence in ca. 1500-1525.

The relief is smaller than normal chimney piece lintels, but the appearance of two braziers between the animal heads suggests that it was made for a small fireplace, as scenes associated with fire are often represented on the sculptural surrounds.
