The Victorian Tapestry Workshop, based in Melbourne, Australia, has a well earned international reputation for the technical excellence of its hand-woven tapestries. The majority of the Workshop’s tapestries are large-scale commissions, however, there has always been a demand for individual clients eager to own small examples of work. In order to make their tapestries more widely available, the Workshop put together a collection of specially designed small tapestries to be woven in limited editions. This piece, entitled ‘Mask’, is by Murray Walker, who has designed many of the most important tapestries woven by the Victorian Tapestry Workshop, including the bicentennial tapestry hanging in the Guildhall in London.
