Physical description

A cancelled, engraved copperplate depicting two separate scenes.
The image below is of a coastal scene at sunset, with sailing ships visible, the name 'TURNER' inscribed in a large sunburst.
The image above is of a man perched on a stool painting at an easel, with his feet resting on the easel. Inscribed below this image is 'D. Mackie de[?]' and 'S. Haybon Sct', the latter of which is not correctly reversed for use on a printing plate (in addition, the final letters 'S' and 't' are not reversed). This image has also been stamped across the centre 'DESTROYED 22ND NOVEMEBER 1883'.

The plate is inscribed with the name 'S. Haydon', the paper wrapper it is held in attributes it to 'S. J. B. Haydon'.
