The location depicted in this relatively early uchiwa-e (rigid fan print) design by Hiroshige is somewhere along the Takanawa coastline in the southern part of Edo. The woman and children are gathering shellfish and catching fish, the two boys in the centre grappling with a flounder they have just landed. The style of the design, particularly the depiction of the woman, is reminiscent of the work of another influential print designer, Keisai Eisen (1790-1848).
