Print
1893 (published)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

On the left-hand page is an original drawing by Aubrey Beardsley in indian ink. On the right-hand page is a reproduction of this drawing in line block, just as it appeared in the published edition of the book.

Beardsley was one of the first artists to make drawings specifically for reproduction by the process of line block. He sometimes used the process to reduce the dimensions of the original drawing, which, as this vignette shows, could intensify the impact of the design.
