This design was used by Pilkington Bros Ltd as a tile decoration. A set of tiles made after this design is in the Nordenfjeldske Kunstindustrimuseum, Trondheim, Norway. The reference to Essex & Co. in the inscription indicates that the design was also originally intended for use as a wallpaper.
