Place of origin |
A cluster of successful new potteries sprung up about the year 1800. Of these, Spode prospered by mass-producing the best quality transfer-printed pottery. The firm also produced a range of increasingly sophisticated ornamental and table wares made from bone china. The impressive new mansion at Penkhull was one of the more obvious results of this success for the Spode family. The house is shown on this vase.
