Block Mould

1749 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Good master moulds, known as 'block moulds', could be obtained from specialist modellers. They formed an essential part of the equipment of potteries that wished to mass-produce fashionable products. They were used to produce plaster moulds for pressing or casting. Even after decades of use, large numbers of these tough block moulds have survived with hardly a scratch.
