Physical description

Eighteen straw sample decorations for hats attached to fabric covered card. Motifs of straw and hemp using split straw, quilling technique, straw marquetry and shapes are stamped out with a die. Straw threads, fine split straw plait and small wooden beads are covered with split straw. Incorporated into the decorations are glass beads. The decorations are mostly floral shapes, measuring between 20 mm and 40 mm in diameter.

Bobbin lace of horsehair embroidered with straw. The straw stalk has been split and two 'splints' are twisted into a rope like thread, or straw 'splint' left flat to show the shins. The daisy flower on the braid is made of whole straw stalks.
