The white stonewares made in Staffordshire in the early 19th century demonstrate consummate potting skills. They often contain some porcelain ingredients and are slightly translucent. They use the sprigged Neo-classical ornament that Josiah Wedgwood pioneered. But they were given a new range of ground colours to suit the taste of the time, including ginger, pale blue and mint green.
