Costume design for a female character wearing a wedding outfit. The design depicts two full length female figures wearing late 18th century style costumes adapted for ballet performance. The figure on the left wears a high waisted, short sleeved ankle length yellow dress or petticoat, decorated with pink spots. The figure on the right wears an open fronted, high waisted, long sleeved ankle length yellow dress decorated with red flowers over a white pleated underskirt. She also wears a grey fichu around the neck and waist, and a straw hat. To the right of this figure is a black and white photocopy of a late 18th century historical costume similar to the design. Printed graphics for "The Brontes" and "Northern Ballet Theatre" have been glued by the artist into the corners of the design. The design has also been stamped by the "Society of British Theatre Designers", and "Mayer and Eden". Unsigned by the artist.

Object history | This costume design by Lez Brotherston is part of an extensive collection of designs donated to the Theatre Museum by the artist in 2002. The design was executed for a production of Gillian Lynne's ballet "The Brontes" performed by Northern Ballet Theatre, at the Grand Theatre, Leeds on March 6th 1995. The production was directed by Christopher Gable, the music was composed by Dominic Muldowney, and the lighting was designed by Paul Pyant. |
