Address Box

1858-1875 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This address box would originally have contained a scroll or address from the 'native inhabitants of Madras' in which they formally pledged allegiance to Queen Victoria. Since the inscription refers to the sovereign as 'Queen' rather than 'Empress' it is probable that the box pre-dates 1876, the year in which she assumed the Imperial title.
