Neale & Co. were the most skilled of Josiah Wedgwood's neighbouring factories. They made fine Jasper Ware that equalled in every way the products of Wedgwood. Although theoretically rivals, Neale was quite willing to supply Wedgwood with their wares to make up large orders.

Physical description

Flower vase and cover of blue jasper ware, with white jasper reliefs. On the four sides are cupids in pairs symbolising Art & Industry, Commerce, the Anglo-French commercial treaty of 1786 and the proclamation of Liberty in France. The figures are in square panels with a vase of flowers on either side. Round the lower part is a border of pointed leaves and at the angles of the top rise curved acanthus leaves; the cover is pierced with quatrefoil and circular perforations and decorated with sprays of foliage.
