Historical context
The story of Joseph is combined in the traditions of Islam, Judaism and Christianity. The version in the Qur'an emphasizes Joseph's purity and his refusal to be defiled by temptations of the driving passion of a woman like Zulaikha, wife of the Nazir, and her female companions.
