Costume design probably for a Princess or a Court Lady. The design depicts a three quarter length female figure wearing Chinese style Imperial robes. The costume consists of a scarlet tunic with decorative collar, decorated with embroidered Chinese patterns and symbols, worn over a blue under tunic with "hoof" cuffs. The figure also wears a hat and a jade necklace. To the right of the figure is a pencil drawing of the costume, and two magazine or photocopied images glued to the design showing Chinese Imperial robes. Unsigned by the artist.

Object history | This costume design by Lez Brotherston is part of an extensive collection of designs donated to the Theatre Museum by the artist in 2002. The design was executed for a projected production of the ballet "Aladdin" by Scottish Ballet ca. 1999. The ballet was eventually produced by Scottish Ballet with choreography by Robert Cohan at the Edinburgh Festival Theatre, December 20th 2000. The designer for this production was Colin Falconer. |
