Tile Panel

1680-1720 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Wall tiles developed in 17th century Holland. This gave trained artists such as Cornelis Boumeester of Rotterdam (about 1670-1733) the opportunity to paint large panels. The panels would be fired as separate tiles and then reassembled. Not surprisingly, nautical subjects such as whaling were the most popular.
