Place of origin

The wares made at Savona in Italy in the late 17th century successfully blended European and Chinese features. They combined the moulded and pierced forms of maiolica with a sketchy, watery and whimsical painting style. This was borrowed from Chinese porcelain of the Transitional Period, which followed the overthrow of the Ming Dynasty in 1644.
