This hinged box containing six glass decanters is carved to resemble natural root wood, which was fashionable in 18th-century China for small stands and table furniture. The gnarled appearence would have fitted equally well into a contemporary English aesthetic of the 'rustic'. The box was used to hold six English glass decanters.
