Artist/Maker | |
Place of origin |
This wallpaper was found in La Haute Ville, a house in Vaison, France, formerly the home of the Marquis de Taulignan. This is an early and relatively unsophisticated version of the 19th-century fashion for wallpapers printed to imitate draperies and other fabric wallcoverings. As the fashion continued into the 1830s, papers were produced with increasingly lavish and convincing trompe l'oeil (eye-tricking) effects.
