Hair Ornament

mid 19th century (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This necklace was probably made in North India in the mid-19th century. It was acquired by the Indian Museum in London in 1855. The museum bought many objects from the great national and international exhibitions of the period, and it is likely that the necklace was acquired in this way, possibly from the Paris Exposition Universelle of 1855. A large part of the Indian Museum's collections were transferred to the South Kensington Museum, later renamed the Victoria and Albert Museum, in 1879.
