Physical description

Sketchbook containing designs for furniture, including a design for a fireplace for the artist's house at Fallows Green, Harpenden, and for a shop front for Collinson and Lock, together with plans and elevations of a 'Co-operative Home' and designs for various other buildings including the Parliament House, Cape of Good Hope. Also designs for decorative roundels and a plan of the garden at (?) Fallows Green etc. 76 pages (others missing) of metallic surfaced paper, full-bound in leather, with a pocket in the front cover and a pencil golder.

Inscribed throughout with personal notes, references to Beauvale and the parsonage at Moorgreen for Earl Cowper, to 'Grey Towers', and with details of work for Collinson and Lock, names and addresses etc.

Object history note

The artist included in a list of his works a design for the Parliament House in Pietermaritzburg, but not for the Town Hall at the Caper of Good Hope. More designs for the Co-operative Home are reproduced on pp.451, 453 of Vol.26 of The Building News, January to June 1874.
