Historical context | The coffee table illustrated in this sketchbook was made by William Watt, 1874; the costume studies were probably used for John Coleman's production of Shakespeare's 'Henry V', first performed at the Queen's Theatre, London 16 September 1876; the Spanish embroideries and Russian lamp, which are also illustrated in the sketchbook, are in the Victoria and Albert Museum. |
