Object history
Frontispiece (Finberg 1, 2nd state) to the artist's 'Liber Studiorum', 1807-1819. Published with the plates for Part X, May 1812. All the etching and mezzotinting of the central subject were executed by Turner himslef. The remainder of the mezzotinting was executed by J C Easling (fl. 1788 - p. 1814). The complete series of plates after Turner's original drawings consists of 71 subjects (including this frontispiece), published in 14 parts. Turner's original intention was to publish two series, each consisting of 50 subjects.
