  • 'This vaulted Porch, and excellent example of Saracenic masonry and geometrical proportion stands at an angle in an arcade of similar arches, giving access to numerous apartments built within the boundary wall of the Temple Area, the centre of which is occupied by The Dome of the Rock (Mosque of Omar). The doorway, arches, and fan vault are constructed in accurately cut stones of alternate cream and red-brown colour, thus distinctly emphasising the horizontal joints and providing a pleasing surface decoration in itself. The haunches of the vault, which are comparatively small, are filled in with rough stones grouted solid with mortar.' (Inscribed with note)
