Object history
From 'Oeuvre de Juste Aurèle Meissonnier', a volume of engravings after the works of the French designer, architect and goldsmith, Juste Aurèle Meissonnier (1695-1750). These were issued in three editions between1742 and 1750. The designs of Meissonnier had previously been published in printed sets or cahiers by Chereau the publisher; these were advertised in the Mercure in March 1734.
Production
This plate had previously been published by the widow Chéreau- presumably the wife of the engraver, print-seller and publisher, François Chéreau. Her imprint survives on this plate from the earlier publication.
