Object history
From the 'Oeuvre de Juste Aurèle Meissonnier', a volume of engravings after the works of the French designer, architect and goldsmith, Juste Aurèle Meissonnier (1695-1750). These were issued in three editions between 1742 and 1750. The designs of Meissonnier had previously been published in printed sets or cahiers by Chereau the publisher, and were advertised in the Mercure in March 1734.

This plate is one of six (series letter Q), depicting designs for interior decoration, furniture, ceiling and mural paintings. It is part of a decorative scheme for a room designed for Jean Victor de Besenval, Baron of Brunstat.
