Historical context
Sir Kenneth Clark is shown conducting one of the gallery's midday concerts which took place during the Second World War. Following the removal of the paintings and their storage at a secret location in Wales, the gallery was used as a concert space at lunchtimes. Many of these concerts were performed by the pianist Myra Hess.
