Design for jewellery
British, 1905
Pencil, pen and ink, watercolour
and chinese white
This necklace, its peacock pendant and
matching earrings were designed to be
executed by the Guild of Handicraft. This
cooperative group of craftsmen had been
founded in 1888 by Ashbee in London but
moved to the Cotswolds in 1901. The
peacock was a favourite motif in Ashbee's
jewellery, which was widely imitated.
