Place of origin

Wood engraving titled 'New York City', signed with monogram 'SM', and signed and dated in pencil 'Stefan Mrozewski 35'. The background of the black and white image is composed of building structures typical of the New York skyline. Aeroplanes are depicted in a stormy sky, thick with dark clouds. In the foreground, a railway line cuts through the buildings, supporting a bullet-shaped train. This appears to be straddled by the outline of a giant, angular, transparent figure with clawed fingers and averted eyes. Beneath the railway line, there are two streets at right-angles, thronging with people and vehicles. Under one of the legs of the giant figure, is a depiction of water and vessels.
