Charles Rennie Mackintosh (1868-1928) Design for a printed textile British, about 1920 Pencil and watercolour Mackintosh left Glasgow in 1914. The architectural commissions had dried up and his last building, the Glasgow School of Art Library had received almost no publicity. In 1916 he settled in London and apart from a few commissions from enlightened and tolerant patrons like J. W. Bassett-Lowke he did little work apart from some textile designs for the firms of Foxton's and Sefton's. These tend to combine geometric patterns, bold stripes and stylised floral motifs.
