Historical context
This watercolour was previously thought to be a view of Lyons, and was dated c.1846. The reidentification of Regensburg is due to Cecilia Powell who discusses the 1840 Danube tour in her Turner in Germany catalogue, Clore 1995 pp. 67-72.
