| Object history | Jaipur was renowned for its enamelling in the 19th century (Jacob and Hendley) and because of the enlightened patronage of her Maharajas, avoided the decadence then affecting other crafts in India. Enamelled bangles of this type were sent to the great international exhibitions held in London in 1851 and Paris in 1855 and 1861. The terminals are in the form of the heads of makaras, or mythical water-monsters. |
