Object history | Curved legs with goats’ feet, connected by gadrooned strips. Probably made to contain a glass liner, probably for a salt or sugar basin. The pink wash may indicate gilding. For similar goats’ feet see a sugar basin by Andrew Fogelberg of 1777 in the V&A Museum (M.47&A-1960). The paper is dirty, oil-stained design and spark marked suggesting it has been in a workshop.
Design number 8892 is also coloured in pink wash and executed in similar style.
Bought from the dealer Edwin Parsons & Sons on the 11th April 1883 together with 51 other drawings mainly for goldsmiths’ work. |
