Object history | Other drawings by Stothard related to this tray are 55-1873, 8777, 9241.5, 9082-39, 41. Also related are designs in the collection of the Yale Center for British Art B1975.4.947; Nottingham Museum and Art Gallery, The Huntington Art Gallery (71.63), The British Museum (1900, 0824.430, 443-447), and in Tate (T09980, T09975).
This design is related to a similar design for a salver by Stothard for a bacchic tray for which a number of drawings survive including one of half of the tray as used here, in the Royal Collection RCIN 925778.
Trays following this second design are also in the Royal Collection, (RCIN 50837), made by Paul Storr and hallmarked 1812-13. This drawing is in an album entitled "Academic and Other Studies, Stothard", with the bookplate of Samuel Boddington. Bought from R. Jackson May 28th 1883 for 3 pounds. |
