Darning sampler of embroidered canvas in red thread in darning and cross-stitches. The main part is divided into eighteen equal oblong sections, each showing a different darning pattern. At the bottom is the name 'Mde Van Hecke' worked in cross stitch with a row of vine-leaf pattern above. Vine-leaf border around the edge of the sampler. It is not hemmed or finished in any way.
