On the left of the path is a small decorated tower. At the end of the path is a domed mosque bordered with a leaf and scroll motif. Madras, India 1858.

Gallery 100 ‘A History of Photography’, 2014-2015, label text: Linnaeus Tripe (1822–1902) Mosque (Musjid) of Nuttur Auleah, India 1858 Tripe joined the Madras Infantry of the East India Company army in 1838. In 1850 he returned to England, where he began to experiment with photography. When a Captain in the army again, Tripe recorded views in India and Burma. He prepared waxed paper negatives that did not require immediate exposure, enabling him to travel for long periods without affecting the stability of the negative or the resulting print.
