Panel from a temple-car of teak carved in high relief. Formerly part of a temple-car of a Subrahmanya Temple in the S. Kanara District of the former Madras Presidency, but now in the state of Karnataka. The god Vayu riding on his vehicle the Deer. He is crowned and jewelled and holds in his upraised right hand the double-pennant, whilst the left is in the hand gesture of abhaya mudra, meaning 'do not fear'.
