Hendrick Goltzius’ drawing of Lot and his Daughters, displayed nearby, served as a design for this engraving in reverse, by Jan Saenredam. A prominent Dutch engraver, Saenredam was apprenticed to Goltzius. He was influenced by his master’s style of draughtsmanship and printmaking, and engraved a number of Goltzius’ drawings.
